Flight of The Bumblebee

Known for its lightning-fast 16th note runs and association with cartoons, Flight of the Bumblebee is one of  Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's most famous musical compositions. Written in 1899-1900 as an interlude for the opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan, this piece closes the third act  scene 1 where the Tsar's son, Prince Gvidon Saltanovich gets changed into a bumblebee. This change, initiated by the magical Swan Bird, helps him fly over the sea as a stowaway on the Sultan's ship  to meet with his father who is in Tmutarakan.

Flight of the Bumble is performed numerous times as a stand-alone piece in popular culture as well as orchestral and solo compositions. Among its uses include the fictional 1947 biopic Song of Scheherazade, Walt Disney's Fantasia, and the radio program, The Green Hornet.
